About this archive

Chinese Practical Technology Archive is a small library of workshop processes that actually get used in China — folk crafts, food fermentation, DIY electronics, chemical formulations, building trade, and traditional kitchen medicine. Every entry is published in English, translated from the Chinese original and proof-read by a human.

What we collect

  • Food & Fermentation — stinky tofu (chou doufu), red fermented bean curd (sufu), Chinese yellow wine (huangjiu), soy sauce, fermented black soybeans, cured belly pork, paocai, pickles. Each entry carries ingredient ratios, fermentation temperature, the practical time window, and a troubleshooting list for the batches that went wrong.
  • Electronics & Electrical — 555 timer circuits, power-cut alarms, home monitoring rigs, bench supplies. Hands-on DIY and repair work: the kind people build in a garage rather than buy.
  • Chemicals & Household — cleaner, adhesive, plating-bath and pesticide-aid formulations, with the safety red lines spelled out.
  • Construction & Renovation — cement ratios, waterproofing, mortar mixes, self-build rural house practice.
  • TCM & Food Therapy — decoctions, poultices, medicinal cuisine. Recorded as cultural material only; never framed as medical advice.

Why everything is in English

Ratio numbers (amounts, temperatures, dwell times) are carried over exactly as written — never converted, never "improved", because the ratio you see is the ratio the master validated. Terms are published bilingually as English (pinyin) — for example Stinky Tofu (Chou Doufu) — so you can match an entry against a supplier's spec sheet or a customer's purchase order.

Where the content comes from

Sources are public craft manuals, local gazetteers, and dictated notes from working tradespeople. We do three things: we straighten the Chinese, we translate the terminology into the words foreign buyers actually search for, and we merge duplicates and cut transcription errors. Where the original copy is demonstrably wrong, the page ends with an Editor's note flagging it.

Pricing and downloads

Every entry offers a free preview of the first 10–30% (the split is set per article). After unlocking, the PDF is generated on the spot and deducted once from your USD wallet. Each PDF carries the buyer's e-mail as a watermark — it is what makes a chargeback or a resale traceable.

Who runs this

A one-person archive. No advertising, no tracking pixels, no data selling. If a process saved you a failed batch, the donate box in your account area is the only way to say thank you.
